ABOUT DR. JOHN THORNTON

Money is temporary. What you do with it isn't.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated with one question: “I’m saved. Now what?” Life is an amazing gift from God, and I want to make the most of it.

As a CPA with a PhD in accounting, I’ve taught for 30 years at top universities across the country, including the U.S. Air Force Academy, Washington State University, Vanguard University of Southern California, and Azusa Pacific University, where I held the university's first endowed chair and launched the Leung School of Accounting.

For the past decade, God has called me to what I have dubbed the second half of the Great Commission, “teaching them to obey everything I (Jesus) have commanded,” specifically with regards to money. Jesus’ financial advice is perfect, calling for wisdom—character and competence in action—for those whose hearts’ desire is to glorify God. To see his kingdom come and his will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Towards this end, I wrote, Jesus' Terrible Financial Advice (Moody Publishers), which hit #1 on Amazon's Christian Stewardship chart the week it released. Recently, I adapted the book into a seven-week group study, “God’s Will in Your Wallet,” focused on 10 truths from Jesus to gain wisdom with wealth.

Getting Rich Right is designed for those who want to finish well with their wealth. Who long to hear him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

I'm married to Alyssa, encourager and love of my life, and we have three sons, three daughters-in-law, and two grandkids.

How to use what you can't keep to gain what you can't lose.
